Interviewing Dr. Crystal Stanley-Bell, Our Assistant Principal
Our assistant principal is not just our assistant principal, she's the mom to the twin basketball stars on the Reggie Lewis Junior High Team. Today we will be interviewing on how she got them to get straight A's, train for basketball, have a social life, and be very respectful. That's a lot to teach to a boy but not just one boy, there twins so double the trouble.
"Our E-News team will be interviewing her today. Multiple voices variety of questions," Jackson added.
"To start off Dr. Bell, the big question everyone asks, how did you do this? Raised twin boys into respectful young men. They're stars on the school basketball team and yet they still have a social life and straight A's. Explain to us. How did you do it?" Grace questions.
Dr. Bell looks surprised with all the questions and takes a minute to answer fully," I don't think I did everything. Like your making it sound. My boys are very cooperative and do whatever I ask them to do. I never taught them that, they were born with. But, my husband, Chuck, helps too. When I'm not around he keeps them in line. Whatever we're doing we try to stay in sync. It just makes everything less complicated and helps a lot."
Grace says," How do you manage your time? With being an assistant principal then having to go home and cook and clean and focus on school and basketball."
Dr. Bell laughs," I'm not sure how I do it honestly. It just comes back to the in sync thing. Chuck and I take turns on driving the boys and cooking. The boys help with cleaning and they always want to play basketball so that's not hard to get them outside. But one thing I take very serious is the boys are STUDENT athletes. Student comes before the athlete. Education is very important in life and I make the boys do their homework or make them study before they can do anything else. If they get a bad grade on a test, I'll ask them what happened and make them ask their teacher how they can get extra credit or re take it."
"Well that's all the questions we have for you today. Thank you so much Dr. Bell for making time for this interview." Jackson sincerely says.
Smiling, Dr. Bell pleaded," Thank you!"

What's for Lunch?
Many students have been requesting a article about this topic. The topic which is often topic around school. Every student is always wondering is it actually something good today? Because I'm really hungry. 1 out of 3 students bring their lunch everyday from home. (Survey Conducted in February by McKenzie Van Farr) Why do they bring their lunch? Oh it's because our lunches are low proportional. If it's chicken nuggets we get 4 small chicken nuggets. I used to eat that many from McDonalds when I was 6. My body size has changed but the amount of food has not? Does that make any sense to you? Because nobody understands it here. Most of people don't bring their lunches from home because they want something hot to eat or they're just too lazy.
For example, who would want whole grain noodles for spaghetti when you only get a drip of sauce! And don't get me started on the serving size. Less than a handful? and you expect me not to be hungry?

Interviewing the Twins, Josh and JB
Since it's Basketball season and RLJHS 8th Grade Boys Basketball team is going to our districts playoffs, we're interviewing the top scoring players. Jordan Bell, known as JB, and Josh Bell, nicknamed Filthy McNasty. These two are twins and are breaking every RLJHS basketball record they can! Now with the interview:
"As the top scorers of your team, do you get mad when other teammates miss a basket unlike you guys?" McKenzie questioned.
Answering fast, Josh blurts out," I don't get mad when anyone misses a basket unless it's me. As long as they're putting it up there and trying their best I don't get mad. Just because JB and I have the most points scored doesn't mean we did it all by ourselves. This is a team sport for a reason."
JB nods in agreement.
Jackson approves of this answer and moves on by saying, "When you move onto high school, do you think you'll make it on varsity."
JB answers," We've been to many open gyms with the high schoolers and there is some competition. I honestly don't know. But we'll keep practicing and that will get us somewhere."
McKenzie jokes," Do you guys ever make bets on the court if your winning by a lot?"
Josh gives a straight face, saying," Actually, the other day JB bet if he shot the winning shot then he'd be able to cut off one of my dreads. He made the winning shot. He cut not just one dreadlocks off. But many, making me shave my whole head."
JB snickers,"I had to do a weeks worth of his chores. But it was totally worth it."
"Next question, how do you think your team will do in the play offs?" Jackson adds.
"If we keep playing like we are we will go far, but that's my opinion." Josh explains.
JB nods in agreement.

Spirit Week!
In honor of the first home basketball game Friday, we're doing spirit week. The themes are very creative and making us pumped for Friday!
Monday is pajama day because who likes Monday's anyways? The staff requests that dress code is still to be followed. So no showing up in tank tops or short shorts. We encourage you to dress wildly and comfortable! Fuzy Pajamas are my absolutely favorite! Tuesday is Camo day. Try to blend into the woods the best you can just make sure the staff can still see you! Wednesday is 80's day. Bring your "funky" clothes and try to out dress your friends! Leg warmers and colored tights are pretty comfortable and unique. My Mother wore those all the the time "back in the day." Thursday is twinning Thursday. You and your best friend twin from head to toe. From the same Bow to the same tank top. Let's see what teachers we can confuse?! Friday, the day of the Big game that we've all been waiting for! Is......... Jersey day! Wear your favorite jersey from any team. Dress out that team. Say if you have a Cardinal Jersey wear red knee high socks and wear red bows and wrist bands. For the game let's beat the record of 134 students showing up to a game at school! Tell everyone from our school to go! Carpool! Let's make this happen RLJHS! The Flyer to the Right will be seen around School to remind you- Lucy Watkins, E-News Reporter |
Top 10 songs of the Week
The weekly survey was conducted by DJ Klehamper. Warning: all of these songs may or may not be school appropriate. This survey was taken in open standards. This week the #1 is different then the last couple weeks. Which is very unusual. The winner of last weeks survey was Sugar by Maroon 5. Starting from #10 we will go up to #1. The week of March 11, #10 is Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars. This song is very overplayed on the radio. #9 is Earned it by The Weekend. This song is in the movie, "50 Shades of Grey." #8 is Style by Taylor Swift. T-Swizzle as they call her. #7 is Lay Me Down by Sam Smith. If your feeling emotional, this is a go to song. #6 is Chains by Nick Jonas. He may be super dreamy but guys can listen to this song too. #5, halfway there, is FourFive Seconds by Kanye West, Rihanna, and Paul McCartney. I've heard a lot of reasons why this song was made but none of the stories made sense. #4 is Somebody by Natalie La Rose, feat Jeremih. Another overplayed on the radio, but this song does get me into the, "party mode." #3, getting closerrrr...... is See you Again by Wiz Khalifa. This song is at the end of fast and furious 7, when the deceased actor Paul Walker is presented. #2 is last week's winner, Sugar by Maroon 5. No surprise there. And now.... What you've all been waiting for......#1 of the week of March 11th, is.... Stitches by Shawn Mendes! The boy who got a career by posting him singing on vine for 6 seconds. #realtalentdiscovered Thanks to all of the people who toke the survey. Have a good day!

History of our fellow Students
You may not believe it but some people in our school could be a close cousin to a kingdom, or have a scientific relative. As Alex Hamil, I researched some of my fellow students and got some background information about their parents, relatives, etc. My first research was of McKenzie Van Farr, did you know she's a princess of Ireland? Her great great grandmother is true blood of the royals. That's quite amazing. Another one of my discovering is Caleb Edison, is related to Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison is the reason we have light and light bulbs in our houses. Another amazing, quite surprising discover. Last but not least, someone related to a professional basketball player. Yet this is no surprise, the Bell twins, JB and Josh. Their Father played in the European league. He was asked to try out for the Los Angeles Lakers, but denied it. I had to ask around to find out that, Chuck suffered from an injury. He could of had a surgery but denied medical attention and deserted his basketball career. So if you ever wondered where the twins got their talent.....

Basketball Junior MVP Award
It's pretty obvious one of the Bell twin's will win this award this year. But what one? JB or Josh? This is a very hard decision and I honestly don't know how the School Board will decide. JB is a shooting guard while Josh is a forward. Josh is nicknamed Filthy McNasty. He plays very aggressive and a main part in this team. JB does everything for his "Miss Sweet Tea." He makes points, even when the buzzer rings. The two twins play so in-sync it's amazing to see. As 8th Graders, they have a big bright future in front of them. There are other candidates for the Junior MVP award. The following are also candidates. Jake Green, 8th grader at RLJHS and our starting point guard. Dylan McKneel, Starting 8th grader as a center. As our last candidate, Matthew Jameson, also an 8th grader. Matt plays small forward.
I was talking to our 8th grade basketball coach today. I asked him several questions about this and making it into the districts playoffs. Coach says,"I have no clue who will win the Basketball Junior MVP Award, but whoever wins must give 100% dedication into their game. Going into the playoffs is our last chance to beat our enemies. I hope whoever wins deserves this." So good luck to all of our Basketball Junior MVP Award candidates out there! And good luck at the playoffs! Get'em Boys!
